FAQs
-
The name O’KANATA was chosen to reflect the discourse surrounding Indigenous people in Canadian society. It’s in reference to the Iroquoian word “kanata” meaning “village.”
It’s pronounced O-KAH-NAH-TAH.
-
O’KANATA stems from the rural communities within Manitoba where our team comes from. We all have grown up in the prairies and are currently located in Treaty 1 territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
-
O’KANATA is unique in the fact that it’s a federal non-profit created by Indigenous Youth for the sole purpose of supporting Indigenous Youth Prosperity. Our goal is to have every young Indigenous person succeed in following their educational and employment dreams.
-
We are still a growing non-profit, but there will soon be exponential opportunities to become involved and take part in the exciting opportunities we have to offer!
